Nearshore reef fishing
On calm days, the EdgeWater 24 runs out of Ponce Inlet to the reefs and wrecks a few miles off the beach. Bigger fish, bluer water, and still home for dinner.
Nearshore is the middle ground between the lagoon and a deep-sea trip: 3 to 10 miles off the beach, over natural reefs and artificial wrecks that hold cobia, king mackerel, amberjack, snapper, jacks and, in summer, sharks and tarpon cruising the bait pods.
It is a six-hour trip at $800 for 1 to 2 anglers, fuel for the run included. Fred only runs it when the sea is calm enough to enjoy, and he will tell you straight if the forecast says stay inside.
Spring (March to May) is cobia and king season along the beach; summer brings sharks, jacks and tarpon; fall is kings again and big bull reds on the way back through the inlet.

Included
Florida fishing license, rods, reels, tackle and ice. Fish cleaning at the dock. Bring sunscreen, polarized sunglasses, a hat, drinks and snacks, a cooler for your catch.

Nearshore FAQ
Will I get seasick nearshore?
Possibly, if you are prone to it. Take motion sickness medication the night before and the morning of, eat a light breakfast and keep your eyes on the horizon.
Is this deep sea fishing?
Not quite. Deep-sea boats run 30 to 60 miles for grouper and mahi. Nearshore stays within sight of the beach, which means more fishing time and a much calmer ride.
Is fuel included?
Yes. The $800 nearshore rate covers the fuel for the run to the reefs; the only extras are additional anglers ($75 each) and bait.
